THE GLOOMIES PALMS

For a band that decided to call themselves The Gloomies, their first musical offering is anything but. 'PALMS' is a glimmering slice of funky, psychedelia-tinged pop that combines catchy keys, with hypnotic beats and atmospheric guitar sounds. Front man Andy Craig's intoxicating melodies come to a climax with the brilliant earworm of a chorus, 'I don't see the movie, that plays in your head, why wait it's gloomy, you can sleep when you're dead,' that'll probably stick in your head for the rest of the day. Recalling elements of Kevin Parker's ever-popular neo-psych production techniques with its super compressed drums and experimental filters, 'PALMS' doesn't feel like a Tame Impala tribute like so many psych-pop bands we hear. Instead, The Gloomies have created a sound of their own that feels fresh, exciting and filled with the promise of summer. 'PALMS' arrives alongside news of the band's debut album Romance, which will arrive via Thrill Me on the 13th of July. -Holly Mullineaux
